The Town is governed by a board consisting of six trustees and a mayor selected by the qualified electors of the town. The mayor and trustees serve four year terms with three members serving alternate terms. The trustees shall normally meet twice per month to conduct town business. Town business includes the introduction and passage of town ordinances and resolutions for the preservation of the public health, safety, and welfare. The Town Board also sets the goals and objectives for the community through adoption of the annual operating budget and through directives given to the Town Administrator.
The Town Administrator is selected by the board of trustees to efficiently administer all departments, resources and employees of the town. The administrator shall also recommend an annual operating budget for adoption by the board of trustees and administer the budget as finally adopted. The administrator may also recommend to the board the adoption of any measure which the administrator deems necessary for the protection of the health, safety and welfare of the community. The town administrator shall, by oath upon appointment by the Board of Trustees, be obligated to faithfully discharge the duties of the administrator including the supervision of the enforcement of all laws and ordinances adopted by the Town Board.
The town clerk is appointed by the board of trustees and is required to attend all meetings of the board of trustees. The clerk is also required to make a true and accurate record of all the proceedings, rules and ordinances made and passed by the board. The clerk is the custodian of all of the town’s records and such records shall be open at all reasonable times for inspection by the electors of the town.
The Assistant Town Clerk aids in the coordination of all statutory and required administrative functions of the Clerk's position, including custody of all official Town ordinances, resolutions, proclamations and archival records. The Assistant Town Clerk also records and transcribes official minutes of the Town Board of Trustees and other required meetings.
The treasurer is appointed by the board of trustees to have the duty and responsibility for the accounting of town funds. The treasurer shall receive all moneys belonging to the town, keep the books and accounts of the town, and the record of all warrants redeemed and paid by the treasurer with their supporting vouchers.
The Public Works Director serves at the pleasure of the Town. This supervisory position has overall day-to-day responsibility for the operation, maintenance, and equipment used at any of the Town's water and wastewater systems, storm drainage systems, streets, parks and other physical facilities.
This position enforces the Town's municipal ordinances pertaining to animals, public nuisance issues and code violations. In addition to patrolling throughout the town and handling citizen complaints, this position provides court testimony on code-related cases.
